Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange x Korea Ceramic Foundation
Ceramics, the Storyteller of Humanity
Throughout history, the medium of ceramics has always been part of the human experience, in the form of common tools as well as the field of creative arts. Ceramic artifacts not only provide clues to the zeitgeist and cultural tastes of the times but also serve as important markers denoting the transformation and history of humanity. As a mediator between different worlds and cultures and a storyteller of humanity, ceramics has continuously chronicled the lives of individuals and groups, as well as the vestiges of interactions between people from different cultures and regions over the course of a millennium. At the exhibition
Korean Ceramic Art : Stories of Near and Far Away, held in celebration of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the medium of ceramics tells stories of “now” and “us.”
The World in Korean Ceramics and Korean Ceramics in the World
Korean Ceramic Art : Stories of Near and Far Away presents Korean ceramic works that convey interesting points for discussion on global themes such as the coexistence between nature and humanity, community and diversity, and harmony and communication. These discussions are held as the world faces rapid social changes, revisiting the meaning of the Olympic Games as a venue for global unity. The ceramic works created by five Korean ceramic artists featured in the exhibition deal with social and cultural phenomena and tell stories surrounding them in diverse formative languages through the rich traditional context of Korean ceramic art, in addition to various forms of expression. Hopefully, this exhibition will provide an opportunity to look back on the stories of our distant and near past through ceramic works and to uniquely experience the aesthetic beauty of contemporary Korean ceramics.
